# The Advisor

> Ask questions across your whole workspace and get answers cited to verified municipal code.

The **Advisor** answers zoning and permitting questions across every Study in
your workspace. Every code-based answer cites the verified municipal source.

## What you can ask

It can draw on:

* the code for every jurisdiction your firm has enabled;
* your Studies, their submittal items, reports and board filings;
* your My Work items and recent changes in jurisdictions you watch;
* your firm's own documents (see [Firm knowledge](#firm-knowledge)).

Examples to start with:

* "Which of my plans have filings due soon?"
* "Compare parking minimums across my jurisdictions"
* "What changed in my watched jurisdictions this week?"

Click **+ New** to start a conversation. Past conversations are listed under
**Conversations**, and each one has its own link.

## Reading an answer

* **Numbered markers** such as \[1] and \[2] open the source. You see its
  label, the verbatim quote, and **Open at …** to read it on the publisher's
  site.
* **Sources (N)** under the answer lists every citation.
* A **confidence** badge shows how well-grounded the answer is.
* **Confirm with …** rows suggest the right next step, such as a
  pre-development meeting.

Labels tell you when part of an answer is not a cited determination:

| Includes your firm's own documents (not regulation) | Part of the answer comes from firm knowledge |

## When the Advisor won't answer

Rather than guess, the Advisor says **I can't answer this.** and gives the
reason:

* The question is outside zoning, permitting and your Studies.
* It couldn't find authoritative information in the code it has.
* Its draft cited a source it couldn't verify, so it refused rather than
  guessing.
* It ran out of lookups for that question.

**Try again** retries, or you can rephrase the question.

If you send more than 30 messages in a minute, it asks you to wait a moment
before continuing.

## Firm knowledge

The Advisor can also search documents your firm has chosen to add. Answers
drawn from them show a chip reading **Your firm's document**, and never a
numbered citation. If firm documents are the only basis for an answer, it
says so first.

To add a document, open a Site, find the file in the Site file, and choose
**Add to firm knowledge**. Manage what's included under
**Settings → Firm knowledge**, where you can also add notes. Removing a
document deletes what Urbee indexed from it; your file stays in the Site
file.

Firm knowledge is readable only by people in your organization. Urbee's staff
can't search it, and it's never used in a compliance determination.
