# Notifications and @-mentions

> What Urbee notifies you about, how to mention a teammate, and how to control email.

## What you'll be notified about

The **Notifications** item in the sidebar shows a count of unread
notifications. It refreshes about once a minute.

| Someone **@-mentions you** in a comment | Yes, immediately (you can turn this off) |
| Someone comments on an item you **follow** | No, in-app only |
| A **watched jurisdiction** or registry source changes | In a daily digest, if you've turned email on for that source |
| A citation you **flagged** has been reviewed | No, in-app only |

You follow an item automatically when you comment on it, when you're
mentioned on it, or when you're assigned as its owner. Being assigned doesn't
send a notification by itself. Your own comments never notify you.

Open **Notifications** to see them grouped by day. Clicking one marks it read
and takes you there. **Mark all read** clears the list.

## Comment and mention a teammate

Comments live on submittal items and risks inside a Study.

* Type in the **Comment…** box. **Enter** posts, **Shift+Enter** adds a new
  line.
* Type **@** to mention a teammate. Use the arrow keys and Enter or Tab to
  pick someone. Only members of your workspace can be mentioned.
* **Subscribe** / **Unsubscribe** at the top of the comments controls
  whether you hear about new comments on that item.

Limits: 4,000 characters and 20 mentions per comment.

## Control email

Go to **Settings → Notifications**.

* **Mentions:** turn mention emails on or off for this workspace. They're on
  by default. The unsubscribe link in a mention email turns them off in every
  workspace you belong to.
* **Email digest per watched source:** turn the daily digest on or off for
  each jurisdiction you watch. The digest arrives at most once a day, and
  only on days with changes. The unsubscribe link in a digest turns all
  digests off; turn them back on here one at a time.
